Compound exercises are exercises that involve more than one muscle group. Here are 5 benefits of compound exercise
1.Burn More Calories
The reason for this is because exercises that require more muscle tissue require more oxygen. The more oxygen required the more energy your body uses.
2.Improves Intermuscular Coordination
Intermuscular coordination is the function and timing of multiple muscles around a joint. E.g. Gluteal Complex (Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius & Gluteus Minimus), which controls the motion of the hip. Compound exercises such as Squats will move the hips in all three planes which can improve how all of the muscles work together to produce and control force.
3.Elevates Heart Rate
Compound Exercises like Deadlifts and Squats involve large amounts of muscle tissue which challenges the heart to pump more blood to keep the muscles fuelled.
4.Dynamic Flexibility
Dynamic stretching involves moving a joint through a range of motion to lengthen the surrounding tissue. When doing compound exercises, muscles on one side of a joint contracts as the muscles on the opposite side has to lengthen to allow contraction to occur.
5.Improve Movement Efficiency
Compound exercises that involve large groups of muscles teach the muscles how to coordinate the firing of the motor units responsible for timing muscle contractions.
